“an engineer showed me his Notion database last month. 2,000 entries. color coded. tagged. linked. completely abandoned since february. "i built the system," he said.”
“yeah the mobile app is where notion really shows its cracks. i love the flexibility on desktop but trying to quickly capture a task or check something off on my phone feels like im fighting the interface half the time”
“in order to continue using notion, i had to contact support ask them to disable AI for my profile because of how much it was annoying me. if i had it my way there would be no Generative AI, or at the very least programs and apps would give you the choice to opt in rather than make it the default for everyone.”
“I want to make a notion calendar widget using only notion formula. somehow, I have made the formula but in gallery view it doesn't look good & for some reason I need to keep the text in code format or else the formula breaks.”
“The worst part is you can't bypass the page selector at all. There's no way to build a simple "login with Notion" flow where you don't want any access (yet)”
“I love building on top of Notion, but I genuinely think the current OAuth / page-sharing experience is one of the worst parts of the platform for indie developers.”
“Notion hands you the fix nearly for free. Add a Last edited time property, add a date property for when it was last checked, then a formula comparing the two. Page edited after the review date, it flags itself as stale.”
“the risk with a layer is you inherit notions speed. if the api is slow on a big database then your fast little task manager feels slow, and people blame you, not notion.”
“I’m really tired of seeing many other companies solve the issue of property get who is talking on the meeting and yet the platform I pay and bet a lot doesn’t have it. I even saw Notion tweeting about having it being able to at least identify what is me and what is other users (by just selecting the microphone as input).”
“I personally have a dedicated Notion list in Reminders and use Siri to dictate my reminders. When things need to go to Notion, I move them to that list and at 9pm, an automation sweeps everything from that list into my Notion tasks database.”
“Notion natively only allows you to archive, which is better than just using filtering conditions, If you know for a fact it's something you want to "delete" for good. Though archive is not the same as truly delete.”
“Notion just provides a place to show the embed. If the embeds not displaying properly, the first thing to check is authentication. The easiest way to take care of that kind of problem is to disconnect the connection and reconnect it.”
“As the other poster said, remove the other person from your account (if they have private pages, they should move them to a Teamspace first), then re-invite that person as a guest.”
“I like tracking my tasks in Notion, not because its the best task management app out there, but because I'm already using Notion in my day to day life for shopping lists, planning, trip itineraries, etc. I use it all the time at work and in my personal life.”
“In Notion, the philosophy is configuring the “View” that you’re in to filter out rows that have that column checked. It doesn’t truly delete it, it just gets hidden in that view.”
“I've always been able to add my editable Google sheets to my Notion page, but about a week ago I noticed that despite me not having changed any of the settings, ALL of my embedded google sheets that I could edit previously directly through the embed, are now essentially static sheets, I cannot even click into any cells, only highlight the text as if it's a static text.”
“Notion is particularly effective at holding structured research once you've decided where it goes. The harder problem is the stuff you captured before you knew it mattered: a comment in a doc, a line in a meeting note, a decision buried three pages deep.”
“I am an admin on a Notion workspace - if I click the "Export all workspace content" button on Notion, does that export all data across all users in my workspace, including private pages, or does that only export data that I have access to?”
“Every time I open this database it gives me this error message and shows none of my pages. But only this database I probably have 20 or 30 in this Teamspace and I am pretty sure this is the only one that has this issue. I don't have any fancy automations or things slowing it down so I am just confused.”
“notion ai search goes through everything you have access to, no built-in way to exclude pages sadly. only workaround i can think is making a separate workspace for personal stuff, bit annoying but it keeps things separate”
“You are seeing notion in the wrong way, you do not expect an appointment to make you immediately productive unless you actually have purpose in your life.”
“I agree op’s post is data modeling 101 but I believe that in Notion, each ‘database’ is (more or less) the equivalent of a table with some added stuff, connected by ‘relations.’ But I’m not a Notion expert”
“I think it's quite dangerous as even archived documents can leak into AI contexts through search in my experience. So a document that is marked an "unreviewed" might be able to be deprioritized through prompt querying, but I don't think there's any real guarantee.”
“And, to make it much worse, Claude integration makes me want to build more stuff that makes me think it will be better, etc. Had I stuck to my plan, I’d have the simplest of set-up’s…but got curious, started building, and all that stuff.”
“notion's fonts are per-page, no batch toggle for that sadly. even the api won't let you change page font last I checked, you'd have to rebuild each page from scratch which defeats the purpose”
“My main notion use is a database where I make a new page, call it something and I have all the properties I need to track my work orders and keep notes in, because my work app is very “into the void” once you complete a work order. I keep track of what parts I use, it calculates time to complete, etc.”
