“If you have Canva Pro, you can “resize” your entire design to a custom size of 8.5w x 11h and then the squares will be gone in the new design. If you don’t have Pro and can’t resize it, unfortunately you can’t get rid of them. However, I don’t think the squares stay if you save the images and print them.”
