1Password
Encrypted vaults for passwords, passkeys and secrets, for people and teams

1/31Password is a password manager that keeps credentials, passkeys, card details, documents and other secrets in end-to-end encrypted vaults, and fills them across desktop apps, mobile and the browser. Watchtower audits what is stored and flags vulnerable, weak and reused passwords along with sites where two-factor authentication or a passkey is available. Business plans add shared vaults with role-based permissions, provisioning through Okta, Entra ID, OneLogin and Duo, a developer toolkit and command-line tool for keeping secrets out of code, and Device Trust for checking device health before granting access. Larger organisations are sold SaaS Manager and Privileged Access alongside it, quoted rather than priced publicly.

Experiences vary; while some users report that the software works flawlessly, others describe performance issues including high memory usage in Firefox, freezing during biometric authentication, and delays when opening the unlock dialog. How does 1Password compare to Bitwarden in terms of pricing and features?
Some users note that Bitwarden is significantly less expensive, with some suggesting it costs roughly half as much as 1Password. While some users find 1Password more polished and appreciate features like the Secret Key, which has no exact equivalent in Bitwarden, others argue that Bitwarden's robust free tier and lower cost make it a more justifiable choice for their needs.

What are the concerns regarding the use of 1Password with AI tools and CLI?
Users have expressed concerns about the security of the CLI, specifically regarding the level of access it requires. However, others point out that the CLI allows for secure secret injection where the AI does not see the secret itself, as the process requires explicit user authentication and keeps secrets out of memory and environment variables.

What people are saying about 1Password
37% negative“With Universal Sign-In, it asks for Touch ID every time, which gets annoying, so I turned it off for now too. It even kept popping up on [news.yahoo.co.jp](http://news.yahoo.co.jp) even though I was already logged in.”
“1Password should decorate credential inputs, period, there should be no shitty popup covering up page elements. I don't want to have to do additional clicks just to access the page itself.”
“I finally moved from 1Password7 to 1Password and followed the documented import process. In my new vault some of the items are missing username and passwords. The entity exists but does not have username and password it has tags like "From 1Password7 <date>" etc.”
“This is 1Password leadership?”
“If your users do actually manage more credentials than just Microsoft or you have service accounts or shared creds in your departments, having a place to put all of those (other) credentials - that can also be accessed using WHfB and SSO, btw - makes sense.”
“Whomever's been in charge of 1Password UX for the last year needs a serious talking to.”
“1Password 7 for iOS is still miles better than 1Password 8. This is disappointing.”
“1Password 7 already lacks many features that have been added to 1Password 8 in the many years since, including passkeys. It's impressive they maintained backend compatibility with 1Password 7 for this long, but I can understand why they're dropping it.”
“But either way, now that I cycled the settings and restarted all the apps, they appear to be working.”
“Seems like 1Password sort of forgot about passkeys... :(”
“It's kind of annoying. I'm working with reporting tools and there is a field to filter the report by userid. 1Password pops up every time and offers to fill it in.”
“This doesn’t mean 1Password will stop syncing, but rather 1Password 7 will stop syncing. Sounds like they want all users on 1P8.”
“I picked 1Password because it felt like a tool for people who know what they're doing. Lately it feels aimed at the least technical user possible, and that's making me consider looking elsewhere.”
“I avoided 1Password 8 as long as possible because of Electron and backwards UI. My Mac is only 8GB of RAM, can’t really afford giving extra (without triggering much swap) just for bloated Electron process.”
“It's much much better but I still find quirks in mac OS. Mac OS sometimes decides to hijack the sign in process in safari and chrome.”
“I don’t like electron app but I never had any issues with 1Password since the release of 1P8. It works flawlessly. My password history has no limits and thus have several years.”
“Oh i miss 1password… that sounds nice”
“1Password 7 will no longer sync with membership accounts in early 2027”
“Anyway, onward to their brave new world I guess, or in my case motivation to finally get serious about Vaultwarden.”
“But when a company donates 300k to combat IRL Trojans I'm going to look into 1password.”
“Does this rely on 1Password browser extensions? Or can/should the browser extension be safely removed?”
“Now we updated to 1Password Business. Business gives the opportunity to setup SSO with and IdP. But i think in our envoirement, it is useless?”
“I love that the 1Password team keeps trying to improve their product and it’s why I keep being a paying customer.”
“i used to have a list of 30 mac apps i cannot live without. and now to use ANY os i just need chrome 1password codex and tailscale, that's it. everything else is cope.”
“W 1password, keep going”
